Mangrove  tree is considered one of the most important environmental features of the marine environment in the Sultanate because it is an important natural resource in preserving the ecological balance and nursery areas for many fish of commercial value and other marine organisms. Of these trees, known as Avicennia marina, which was able to adapt to the Omani environment with hot weather and fresh water scarcity. This type is distributed in several coastal areas, extending from Al Batinah to the North through Muscat Governorate, Eastern Region, Mahoot Island and Dhofar Governorate in South Lebanon The total area covered by the Crimean trees in the Sultanate is approximately 1000 hectares.

In addition, these trees are one of the oldest coastal resources of the Sultanate. This is evidenced by the results of the studies conducted on excavations in the park of the Crimean natural park, which showed the presence of the Crimean trees in this area and exploitation of fishermen for more than 4000 years ago.

In view of the importance and importance of these trees to the marine environment and the continuous risks and threats, and in order to preserve these trees, the Ministry in cooperation with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) implemented the project of cultivation and conservation of the mangroves trees and rehabilitation of the Marshlands began in 2001 to promote environmental awareness in individuals Community and instilling environmental concepts in the importance of mangrove culture.
